More information about river trekking:

River trekking in Taiwan has become one of the most popular summer outdoor activities in the recent years, since it is suitable for families or friends to do something together. River trekking does not require any particular skills and is a lot of fun too, you can choose between more challenging or relaxing routes and the length of your trek, several or only one day. The taiwanese natural landscape beholds many valleys, waterfalls, deep pools, rock formations, canyons and giant trees, making its plain sight an unforgettable memory. In addition, negative ions which are initiated near waterfalls and the phytoncide which is absorbed by trees have positive influence on our body, helps us to release stress and alleviate depression. So if you do not regularly exercise or often feel down, river trekking is a very fitting activity for you to try out. Even if you are not feeling very well, river trekking might be the ?medication¡§ for your malaise.

Why river trekking is so appealing

The reason to this phenomenon might be that river trekking wakes our curiosity and catches our attention, since we seek to find out the source of the river, the way of its flow, etc. We strive to see the view from the top of a waterfall, the space behind a valley and once we experience the mystery, it leaves us wanting to explore more.

No matter wether it is exciting, astonishing, enchanting or sometimes disappointing, these are all traits which make river trekking appealing.

Equipment for river trekking:

When river trekking, it is important to use a hard-wearing helmet, river trekking shoes, a life jacket, a fitting safety harness and a very firm ropes to ensure safety, which is why we provide the complete equipment to every participant in our tours. Many mass tourist groups often do not provide safety harnesses or use only one for the entire group, which means they have to take turns. Not only does the entire take off/put on harness process waste a lot of time, it also significantly endangers the safety of the whole group in emergency situations. So if you plan on joining such activities, you might want to reconsider that.

In addition to the river trekking articles already mentioned above, we also equip our clients with special river trekking gloves (not the 10NTD cotton made gloves provided by other outdoor activity companies), wetsuits (cold-resistant) and high-quality carabiners and belaying devices for more challenging treks.

Clothing for river trekking:

In summer, if we are not permanently soaked in water during the trek, it is not necessary for you to wear the wetsuits. That is because they cover your entire body, do not absorb heat and can not let your sweat evaporate through the material, making it very disagreeable to wear in the tropical temperatures in summer. The advantage of wearing these wetsuits on treks that include more swimming is that it protects you from too severe injuries when for example hitting rocks.

Otherwise, it suffices to wear a sweat absorbing long-sleeved shirt and long trousers to our treks. If you have additional budget, you can consider to purchase sweat absorbing long-sleeved clothing made of power stretch material.

Wetsuits provided by Goforwild consist of a sleeveless overall wetsuit and a long-sleeved jacket. Although it is more pricey in comparison to just one longsleeved wetsuit, there are several advantages, such as that you can take the jacket off when not swimming in the river in order to prevent your body from overheating which could result in a heat stroke.

Side note:

Although anyone can participate in river trekking, there are still certain risks which have to be kept in mind. When taking part in such activities it is very important that each member is given the needed equipment and led by an experienced guide. Following the guides instructions and not taking off any part of the equipment or walking off trail without asking is crucial to avoid accidents as well. A group should not consist of more than 20 people due to environmental and safety issues. In addition, it is also easier to trek in smaller teams.
